In a first brainstorming round (from 31 October until 2 November 2001) four topics were identified for further discussion in the second round.

The second round lasted from 6 - 13 November 2001 and generated a truely global exchange of views and insights around the four topics presented in the diamonds on the right hand side.

		Capacity building: Capacity building is a key issue in biotechnology, but what are the constrains on the use of already available capacity?


		Poor patents: Patents limit the access to GM crops. Could this be a benefit in disguise, if it would stimulate developing countries to look for other options to increase yields?


		Options in Food production: The current agricultural system is in trouble. What alternatives are economic viable and ensure food security? Are GM crops an innovative approach?


		Rights and choices: Where there is no common position on biotechnology, which rights and choices are likely to be sacrificed? How can choices be created at the different levels?
